If OC, a brief summary of their history and personality:
History: Vexander was born in the city of Skullport--a wretched hive of scum and villainy by most societies' definition. Likely it was only the fact that he was raised in a temple to the good drow goddess, Eilistraee, that he gained a veneer of civilization in the first place. His father went back to the jungles of Chult when he was a tiny boy, and most of the guards at the Promenade didn't have much use for a half-breed. Luckily for him, his mother had slightly more use for him, and he wasn't left to run entirely wild.
Under the auspice of the temple, he learned to read and write, and that engendered a love of learning and more importantly, a great love of music. A lot of his early bardic training happened at the Promenade, under more musically talented priestesses than his mother. When he first undertook a few escapades to the surface, he quickly learned that he'd have to disguise himself--despite the knowledge of Eilistraee, the locals, confronted with drow, still prudently brandished arms first and asked questions later. With his hair blackened, he just looked like an unusual half-elf.
By the time he met the wizard Eserrin Ardias, he'd regained his usual apperance, and being that Eserrin was a somewhat haughty sun elf from Evermeet, the elves-only island off the coast of Waterdeep, their first meeting wasn't incredibly pleasant. Vexander's command of Common wasn't good, and Eserrin spoke no Undercommon, and of course no Drow either, and so a certain amount of trolling on Vex's part took place. Considering he hadn't been a problem up until that point, there was a number of people who took his side when the sun elf took umbrage. Though eventually, the two became friends, and ended up adventuring together, as well as with a female drow cleric of Eilistraee named Saebra. He played at their handfasting.
In between spates of adventuring, he had the opportunity to broaden his musical skills, first in a tiny college in Aglarond, then in Candlekeep, one of the premier sage enclaves in Faerun. He returns to the former at times, to teach his own musical classes (and to give the place a reputation, considering surface drow are extremely rare).
Personality: Some people would call Vexander a ham. A large one, even. These people are not precisely wrong, but it's doing him a disservice to consider that a ham is the sum of his parts. Yes, he likes attention, but that walks hand in hand with his being an entertainer. At his heart, he wants to leave the world a better place than he entered it, and to him, the best way to do that is lift spirits with a joke, a melody, or a well-placed word. That eloquence has also done its job in getting him out of trouble when necessary, even more than his magical and mundane knowledges!
At first glance he may seem a bit wary, because the usual reaction to drow in Faerun tends to be "kill first, ask questions later". However, he tends to warm up quickly, and generally likes people.
Character Special Abilities (can be a link to Wiki):
Bards are generalists--jacks of all trades, masters of none. Vexander has a broad spectrum of skills, and through good genes and hard work, physically, he's above average than a human, but by no means is he on a superhuman level. He could, perhaps, try out for the Olympics in hurdles, for example, and likely qualify, but he's no Superman or Flash.
However, he does have more than a generalist bard spell list, thanks to his studies at Candlekeep. Due to the vagaries of magic in the Dungeons and Dragons system, he'll believe he only has a certain number of spells to cast a day before he has to rest and regain the knowledge. Unlike a wizard, though, Vexander doesn't have to research a spellbook--his magic is generated through his charisma and force of personality, so it's a more spontaneous thing.
Most of his spells involve accenting his charisma somehow, or inspiring others to do things, at least at lower levels (0-3rd). His spellbook does include up to 9th-level, powerful spells, unusual for a bard--but he only has one spell he can cast at a time from 6th level up. Useful things, like being able to link his party telepathically, absorbing others' offensive spells, or, most powerfully, stopping time for a few seconds to reorder himself or cast lower-level spells intended to support others (for example, boosting their strength or dexterity).
Items/Pets Characters Will Arrive With: One longsword, one shortbow, one quiver of arrows (empty), a pouch of weird odd and ends (spell components, likely useless), one flute, one yarting (guitar), and an entertainer's outfit/the clothes on his back.
